Mrs. Namur: On Books and Reading

I believe that every child deserves a person who will champion their inner reader.  I have been an educator for over thirteen years and a "book lover" for a bit longer. But I didn't always love to read. I actually hadn't even liked it much before meeting a college professor who exposed me to books that were deeply meaningful, raw and relevant, and just offered me a chance to learn about things which I had no comprehension of prior.  That semester, she exposed me to so many books and fostered a space that brought literature to life. I was hooked! I will always have her to thank for bringing out my inner reader.  Like my professor, my hope is to instill the same passion in the young readers I encounter each day. As an educator, it's been my mission to tie literacy into all subjects. I see books as literal gateways to other worlds, experiences, and perspectives.  It's my mission to support students to discover topics and books that interest them, "WOW" them, and pique that innate curiosity. In short, I hope to move readers closer to the place where they can truly say, "I'm a reader."
